Visually, you get to see a cat that looks well put together, with door and panel gaps that are consistent. In short, Proton has move forward quite a bit since the original Saga. In fact, I would say the name Saga is more a millstone around Proton’s neck, because people will have not so fond memories, but then, the Saga, whatever is said and done, is part of our heritage, and I suppose naming the new model the Saga is something that has to be done. Anyway, I assure you the new Saga is nowhere like the previous model. It is a totally new car, and nothing is carried over from the old one.
One of the major concerns expressed by our readers would be the power of the Campro engine, or rather, the lack of it, especially in the lower RPM ranges. Well, the new IAFM variable intake system seems to have addressed the problem, and the 1.3 litre engine does exactly what a 1.3 litre engine does, and surprisingly well too! Matched to the four-speed auto, it performs very well; I would even venture to say that it actually puts the fun back into driving.
Response to throttle is instantaneous, allowing of course for that little bit of lag that is characteristic of most automatic transmissions, but once it gets going, the engine revs happily and effortlessly all the way to 6,500 rpm, and will change up only at this RPM if you keep your foot down. Under normal circumstances, you can invoke an up-shift simply by lifting off. The engine turns at around 3,200 rpm when you are at the highway regulation speed of 110 km/h, but it will happily stretch itself to near 5,000 rpm in top gear, giving a top speed of around 165 km/hr. The cabin is quiet up to around 120 km/h, after which the tyre noise and road feedback through the chassis take over. For Joe Average, the Saga will serve very well if the speed is kept decent. Nevertheless, cruising all day is possible, as the rev-counter will be hovering around the 4,000 rpm mark at this speed. Acceleration from zero to one hundred km/h is done in about 12.6 seconds, not bad for a car of this capacity.

Naza World have announced that they are set to bring in a series of hybrid powered vehicles for sale in the Malaysian market in the coming months. Their efforts start with the Toyota Estima Hybrid previewed to the media earlier today.
The first gen Estima Hybrid, the world's first hybrid-powered MPV was launched in Japan in 2001, featured innovative systems such as the E-Four electric four-wheel-drive system and the ECB (Electronically Controlled Brake) system. Naza has brought us the second generation versions, featuring the second incarnation of the Toyota Hybrid System (THS II), or better known as Hybrid Synergy Drive. Providing the petrol-powered part of the Estima Hybrid's propulsion is a 2.4-litre inline-4 engine. Partnering it to form the THS II system are a pair of electric motors, one driving each axle. The front motor is coupled to a speed reduction device which is said to 'amplify torque', thereby 'efficiently conveying drive power'.
A variable voltage system steps up battery voltage from 245 V to 600 V before it reaches the motors, a move said to further increase output. According to Naza, Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has tested the Estima Hybrid's fuel consumption figure to 20.0 km/l. Acceleration figures are impressive, with the century sprint completed in 10.8 seconds, and the trunk-road-critical 40-70kph pass is accomplished in 4.2 seconds.
Two reconditioned units of the Estima Hybrid MPV, barely a year old each, have been imported from Japan, and priced at RM268k OTR excluding insurance (it should add up to about RM275k all-in). Don't bother whipping out the cheque book yet though. They've been sold. You'll need to wait for the next shipment.

The new, second-generation model has enhanced sportiness and comfort, and featuressignificant improvements in driving, environmental and safety performance, including a new generation engine featuring ‘Valvematic’, a continuously variable valve lift and valve-timing mechanism designed to achieve driving performance whilst saving fuel.
According to the Japanese MLIT 10-15 test standards, the 1.8 litre model achieves 16.0 kilometres per litre and the 2.0 litre model achieves 15.2 kilometres per litre. Also new is a 7-speed CVT with paddle shifts, claimed to improve fuel efficiency by 15 percent over the previous model. The new model also comes equipped with Steering-assisted Vehicle Stability Control (S-VSC), and a supplemental Restraint System with side and curtain-shield airbags. A Dynamic Sport Mode (2.0Z model) increases responsiveness of acceleration and deceleration, and is designed for sporty driving during cornering through use of traction control systems and electric power steering.
Selecting Eco Drive Mode optimizes alignment of driving force with accelerator operation and realizes energy saving in the air conditioning system, contributing to increased fuel efficiency. An Eco Driving Indicator that lights up to signify fuel-efficient vehicle operation and an Eco Zone Indicator that shows throttle use aim to raise driver awareness toward environmentally friendly driving and are standard on all models.Engine options are 1.8 litre, for front wheel drive models, and the 2.0 litre model is available in both front wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions.

When Perodua launched the Myvi back in May 2005, the car flew off the shelves at a rate which shocked even their own bosses. Now, four years on, after over 354,000 units sold, the Myvi still shows no signs of slowing down, with the model recording its highest ever sales figure in July 2009.
Perodua MD, Datuk Syed Abdull Hafiz Syed Abu Bakar was fond of noting that the Myvi, unlike their other models, is a car that sells itself. Its grip on the Malaysian market is almost iron-clad.Every variant of the Myvi sells, and sells well, from the base 1.0, all the way to the dressed-up SE models. Though we find the SE overpriced, the rest of the range ticks all the right boxes for the average Malaysian buyer - price, space, practicality, FC, resale, and reliability.
Despite its runaway success, Perodua is not resting on its laurels, even as far as the Myvi is concerned. Facelifted only last year, Perodua is now selling 5,000 units of new limited edition of the Myvi, which it calls the Exclusive Edition. Distinguishing the new Myvi Exclusive Edition from the standard Myvis are 14" alloy rims (taken from the pre-facelift SE), side skirts, and chromed door handles. It will come in three colour options - Ebony Black, Ivory White, and Medallion Grey.
Inside, you get a 2-DIN MP3/WMA compatible audio system with CD-Player and USB connectivity. A Bluetooth hands-free function is also integrated as standard. The inner door handles are also finished in chrome, with the seats, doors, and steering wheel trimmed in leather.Through the official press release from Perodua, Syed Hafiz was quoted as saying, "I wish to thank all Malaysians for making the Myvi the best selling model for nearly five years and as an added bonus to Myvi enthusiasts, we present to you this limited Myvi Exclusive Edition for those who are looking for style and exclusivity.
"In terms of pricing, the automatic transmission only Myvi Exclusive Edition slots between the Myvi EZi and Myvi SE. In the Peninsula, you can drive one off the showroom floor for RM51,500.00 (solid) or RM51,500 (metallic).
